Whether it be globalization, shorter product life cycles, industry-wide consolidations, or the rapid advancements that have been made in information technology - all these factors have contributed to a steady increase in competitive pressure on domestic and foreign markets. In an economy that is increasingly becoming more volatile, organizations find it more difficult to achieve or maintain their competitive advantage.A way of overcoming these challenges and establishing advantages has been through optimization of the supply chain. Initially, these improvement efforts were limited to areas within the organization, such as inventory, quality, or the manufacturing process itself. In the early nineties, however, when the American retail and consumer goods industry was experiencing stagnating revenues and, at the same time, rising costs, an increase in productivity was hardly to be realized. At that time, aggressive pricing policies were seen as the only approach to gain market share, but the consequences, mainly a negative impact on margins and profits, made it an unsustainable business practice (Seifert, 2003). This led the retail industry to recognize that real gains could only be realized through open cooperative partnerships between retailers and manufacturers. As the supply chain improvement initiatives progressed, they began to include collaboration between the manufacturer, its suppliers, and clients. Although collaboration between trading partners was known as an efficient method for improving forecast accuracy, increasing service, and reducing costs, it was not until then that supply chain partners systematically devised processes that would move the information to where it could add value and, thereby, facilitate supply chain coordination. Since then, collaboration has been referred to as the driving force behind effective supply chain management (Horvath, 2001). One of the latest trends in supply chain management, CPFR is advertized by many authors, consultants, and software vendors as one of the most promising practices of collaboration so far (Ireland & Crum, 2005). The purpose of this paper is to examine the validity of this statement. In doing so, it will analyze the success potential associated with CPFR and, based on pilot results, evaluate the benefits and challenges that arise with its implementation.

Folglich vergrößert sich der Aufgabenumfang für den Einkäufer sowie die an ihn gerichteten Anforderungen. Schlagworte wie C-Teile Management oder E-Procurement sollen Abhilfe schaffen und Beschaffungsprozesse optimieren sowie Beschaffungskosten senken, etwas das auch dringend notwendig erscheint, wenn man bedenkt, dass diese oftmals noch zwischen 100 und 250 Euro pro Bestellung liegen. Stellt sich nun die Frage, wie vor allem mittelständische Unternehmen, die häufig weder über entsprechende IuK-Systeme noch über das benötigte IT-Know-how zur Realisierung solcher Ziele verfügen, diesen wachsenden Anforderungen begegnen. In der vorliegenden Arbeit soll untersucht werden, welche Unterstützung der Mittelstand bei der Beschaffung durch den Einsatz eines ERP-Systems, insbesondere Microsoft Navision, erfährt und ob sich so die vielfach erwähnten Einsparpotenziale beim Beschaffungsprozess auch im Mittelstand realisieren lassen.Dabei wird zunächst der Mittelstand von der restlichen Unternehmenswelt abgegrenzt, spezifische Merkmale festgehalten und die Beschaffung im Mittelstand betrachtet, um später daraus spezielle Anforderungen an eine entsprechende Software ableiten zu können. Es wird auf ERP-Systeme mitsamt ihrer Philosophie, ihren Versprechungen und auch ihren Risiken eingegangen, um eine Basis für den anschließenden Überblick über aktuelle ERP-Mittelstandslösungen zu schaffen.Der Schwerpunkt liegt jedoch auf der Betrachtung der Software Microsoft Navision hinsichtlich einer beschaffungsunterstützenden Funktion. Nach einem Anwendungsbeispiel zu einem Beschaffungsvorgang mit Navision wird dann abschließend die Sinnhaftigkeit eines Einsatzes im Mittelstand vor dem Hintergrund der spezifischen Anforderungen reflektiert.

So wird die Beschaffung zunehmend, auch vor dem Hintergrund des von ihr ausgehenden Werthebels, als Quelle möglicher Wettbewerbsvorteile gesehen, deren Sicherung eine gezielte Abgrenzung gegenüber den Mitbewerbern erlaubt. Dabei wird der Einkäufer, im Rahmen einer marktorientierten Beschaffungspolitik, in zunehmendem Maße unter Druck gesetzt, sich auch außerhalb des eigenen Landes nach Bezugsquellen umzusehen. In Verbindung mit den in den letzten Jahren drastisch verbesserten Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten und der daraus resultierenden höheren Markttransparenz, erfährt die Ausweitung des Beschaffungsradius eine merkliche Unterstützung, weshalb das Thema Global Sourcing zunehmend in den Fokus der Diskussionen rückt.Obwohl diese Entwicklungen eigentlich ein Umdenken in jedem Unternehmen erfordern, wird das Phänomen der Globalisierung, ungeachtet der volkswirtschaftlichen Bedeutsamkeit kleiner und mittlerer Unternehmen, überwiegend mit den Aktivitäten von Großunternehmen in Verbindung gebracht. So findet ebenfalls häufig auch nur eine einseitige Betrachtung des mittelständischen Internationalisierungspotenziales statt, da Internationalisierung in dem Zusammenhang vorwiegend als eine grenzüberschreitende Vertriebsaktivität verstanden wird und demzufolge die weltweite Beschaffung meist unerwähnt bleibt. Somit ist es auch nicht verwunderlich, dass Mittelständler, die ohnehin eine ausgeprägte regionale Bindung aufweisen, die Lieferantensuche zumeist noch auf die Landesgrenzen beschränken. Des Weiteren sehen mittelständische Unternehmer in dem Zusammenwachsen der Märkte häufig eher eine Bedrohung, als dass sie dort ungenutzte Potenziale der Beschaffung vermuten würden. Somit besteht seitens mittelständischer Unternehmen ein akuter Handlungsbedarf, der neben der Entwicklung eines Bewusstseins für die strategische Bedeutung der Beschaffung, ebenfalls die unvoreingenommene Prüfung der Chancen und Risiken einer globalen Beschaffungsstrategie beinhaltet.

Aus diesem Grund sehen sich viele Unternehmen einem stetig steigenden Wettbewerbs- und Kostendruck ausgesetzt, weshalb, aufgrund vielfach bereits ausgereizter Potenziale in der Fertigung, eine Optimierung aller Unternehmensbereiche unabdingbar geworden ist. So wird die Beschaffung zunehmend, auch vor dem Hintergrund des von ihr ausgehenden Werthebels, als Quelle möglicher Wettbewerbsvorteile gesehen, deren Sicherung eine gezielte Abgrenzung gegenüber den Mitbewerbern erlaubt. Dabei wird der Einkäufer, im Rahmen einer marktorientierten Beschaffungspolitik, in zunehmendem Maße unter Druck gesetzt, sich auch außerhalb des eigenen Landes nach Bezugsquellen umzusehen. In Verbindung mit den in den letzten Jahren drastisch verbesserten Kommunikationsmöglichkeiten und der daraus resultierenden höheren Markttransparenz, erfährt die Ausweitung des Beschaffungsradius eine merkliche Unterstützung, weshalb das Thema Global Sourcing zunehmend in den Fokus der Diskussionen rückt.Obwohl diese Entwicklungen eigentlich ein Umdenken in jedem Unternehmen erfordern, wird das Phänomen der Globalisierung, ungeachtet der volkswirtschaftlichen Bedeutsamkeit kleiner und mittlerer Unternehmen, überwiegend mit den Aktivitäten von Großunternehmen in Verbindung gebracht. So findet ebenfalls häufig auch nur eine einseitige Betrachtung des mittelständischen Internationalisierungspotenziales statt, da Internationalisierung in dem Zusammenhang vorwiegend als eine grenzüberschreitende Vertriebsaktivität verstanden wird und demzufolge die weltweite Beschaffung meist unerwähnt bleibt. Somit ist es auch nicht verwunderlich, dass Mittelständler, die ohnehin eine ausgeprägte regionale Bindung aufweisen, die Lieferantensuche zumeist noch auf die Landesgrenzen beschränken. Des Weiteren sehen mittelständische Unternehmer in dem Zusammenwachsen der Märkte häufig eher eine Bedrohung, als dass sie dort ungenutzte Potenziale der Beschaffung vermuten würden. Somit besteht seitens mittelständischer Unternehmen ein akuter Handlungsbedarf, der neben der Entwicklung eines Bewusstseins für die strategische Bedeutung der Beschaffung, ebenfalls die unvoreingenommene Prüfung der Chancen und Risiken einer globalen Beschaffungsstrategie beinhaltet. 44 pp. Deutsch.

In an economy that is increasingly becoming more volatile, organizations find it more difficult to achieve or maintain their competitive advantage.A way of overcoming these challenges and establishing advantages has been through optimization of the supply chain. Initially, these improvement efforts were limited to areas within the organization, such as inventory, quality, or the manufacturing process itself. In the early nineties, however, when the American retail and consumer goods industry was experiencing stagnating revenues and, at the same time, rising costs, an increase in productivity was hardly to be realized. At that time, aggressive pricing policies were seen as the only approach to gain market share, but the consequences, mainly a negative impact on margins and profits, made it an unsustainable business practice (Seifert, 2003). This led the retail industry to recognize that real gains could only be realized through open cooperative partnerships between retailers and manufacturers.As the supply chain improvement initiatives progressed, they began to include collaboration between the manufacturer, its suppliers, and clients. Although collaboration between trading partners was known as an efficient method for improving forecast accuracy, increasing service, and reducing costs, it was not until then that supply chain partners systematically devised processes that would move the information to where it could add value and, thereby, facilitate supply chain coordination. Since then, collaboration has been referred to as the driving force behind effective supply chain management (Horvath, 2001).One of the latest trends in supply chain management, CPFR is advertized by many authors, consultants, and software vendors as one of the most promising practices of collaboration so far (Ireland & Crum, 2005). The purpose of this paper is to examine the validity of this statement.
