Dopo anni di dure fatiche e due anni di un intenso restauro a cura della ditta "Arte Organaria di Bovelacci", le armoniose note dell'organum maximum del duomo tornano a suonare meglio di prima. Qualche informazione. Si tratta di un organo-orchestra realizzato tra il 1881 e il 1882 per opera di Casimiro Allieri e Ferdinando Serassi di Bergamo. Questa denominazione deriva dal fatto che nel corso dell'800 diversi organi a canne vennero realizzati e dotati di registri orchestrali come la grancassa, i piatti e i campanelli. Praticamente, in questo periodo, gli organi, durante la liturgia, sostituivano a tutti gli effetti un'orchestra. Molti compositori realizzarono le loro opere considerando l'utilizzo di questi registri. Nel caso dell'organo del duomo, questo strumento si può considerare come il compendio di tanti anni di carriera che hanno qualificato e distinto la fama dei costruttori d'organi a canne Serassi. Infatti, fu l'ultimo strumento ad essere costruito dalla rinomata ditta che durante quel periodo ha operato molto nel territorio della provincia di Ragusa. In questo modo il nuovo organo Serassi sostituì quello realizzato per il duomo tra il 1786 e il 1787 dal palermitano Giacomo Andronico. L'organo Andronico fu trasportato nella chiesa delle Anime Sante del Purgatorio in piazza della Repubblica dove fu ampliato e reso anch'esso un organo-orchestra.
