Fondée en 1283, elle est d'abord une église paroissiale puis devient en 1512 la 'collégiale Saint-Nicolas' et enfin cathédrale en 1924. [.] Le peintre-verrier Józef Mehoffer exécute les vitraux entre 1894 et 1936. Cet artiste est l'un des premiers maîtres qui ont renouvellé la technique du vitrail. Jahrhundert wurden zwei Schlösser in der Herrschaft von Arconciel gebaut: Arconciel am rechten Ufer der Sarine und Illens am linken." (swisscastles ch) - "Le centre de la seigneurie d'Arconciel, soit le site d'Arconciel dans la boucle de la Sarine et le château d'Illens sur l'autre rive au sommet d'un promontoire, devait contrôler un gué important et aurait dû rivaliser avec la ville de Fribourg, ce qu'elle échoua complètement à faire" (ibid). -- Au Moyen Age, Arconciel, ville [.] avec château fort, fut le centre de l'importante seigneurie d'Arconciel-Illens. Ruines de la ville et du château bien visibles. Arconciel fut rattaché en 1484 aux Anciennes Terres, au district de La Roche en 1798, à celui de Fribourg en 1803. (DHS). "Le nom d'Arconciel n'a rien à voir avec arc-en-ciel, ce qu'on serait tenté de supposer. II est dérivé du terme celto-romain '[castrum] arconciacum', qui a probablement trait à une exploitation agricole, une ferme de l'Antiquité." (swisscastles; nur frz.) - Im Mittelalter war Arconciel als Marktflecken (Stadtrecht 1271) mit einer Burg das Zentrum der bedeutenden Herrschaft Arconciel-Illens. Reste von Flecken und Burg sind gut zu erkennen. 1484 wurde Arconciel der Alten Landschaft eingegliedert, 1798 dem helvetischen Distrikt La Roche, 1803 dem Bezirk Freiburg, 1848 dem Bezirk Saane. (HLS) - Um 1980 wird Arconciel als 'Wüstung' eingestuft, was wohl die Burganlage und umgebende ursprüngliche (mittelalterliche) Siedlung betrifft (in: Autorenkoll., Gesch. d. Kt. Freiburg, 1981, Planzeichnung p. 221). Aktuelle Bilder zeigen hingegen von Illens eine offensichtlich konservierte grosse (Turm-) Ruine (s. swisscastles ch), und ein Zeitungsartikel von 2015 vermeldet ein entspr. neueres Schutzprojekt (ibid.). -- Max de Diesbach (-de Torny; Courgevaux 1851-1916 Uebewil, Gem. Düdingen), kath., von Torny-le-Grand, Bürger von Freiburg. Graf und Fürst, Jurist u.
