Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book is a scholarly analysis of the collected works of the Roman poet Horace as an expression of his personal dealings with the rapidly changing societal and political climate of the late Roman Republic. The author traces the evolution of Horace's poetic voice as he navigates the tumultuous years of the civil war, the rise and fall of Julius Caesar, and the eventual establishment of the Augustan order. The author argues that Horace's work, both his earlier republican-era satires and his later, more celebratory Augustan-era odes, offers a unique window into the complex moral, social, and political tensions of the period. Through close readings of Horace's poems, the author sheds light on such themes as the changing nature of Roman virtue, the impact of political upheaval on individual lives, and the role of poetry in times of social and political transformation. This book will be of interest to scholars of Roman literature, ancient history, and anyone interested in the ways in which literature can both reflect and shape the course of history. Horatii Flacci opera omnia [etc.]'. [.]
