Extremities just a bit dinged. In the illustrated dust jacket, with subtle edge wear. A book beginning with a thorough analysis of the basic factors affecting Bullock's photography. Bullock was enchanted by light refracted by glass in the desert and in Gothic cathedrals, and this love affair with light is obvious in his art. The notion of art distorting appearance led Bullock to the French impressionist and postimpressionist painters, whose work exerted a lasting influence on him. With regards to photography, Edward Kaminsky, a professor at the Art Center School in Los Angeles, encouraged Bullock to imitate and alter reality through technical manipulation of the photographic medium. By contrast, another photographer, Edward Weston, pointed Bullock toward realism in photography. Through careful analysis of these different factors, a clear understanding of Bullock's evolution is made possible.
