Hard bound. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. First Edition. Some of the most spectacular early religious sculpture from Southeast Asia has been attributed to the Hindu-Buddhist kingdom of Srivijaya, yet the exact center and extent of this polity has eluded scholars and archaeologists for decades. It is… now believed to have had an extended influence over the present-day territories of southern Thailand, peninsular Malaysia and the Indonesian island of Sumatra, with perhaps its center near Palembang on the latter island. It appears to have held sway over these territories approximately between the 7th and 11th centuries AD and must have had extensive trade and cultural links, as examples of its art have been unearthed in Vietnam, Cambodia and the Philippines, as well as elsewhere in Indonesia. The present work brings together five eminent scholars in the field, including the editor, an expert on Srivijayan remains in Thailand. A groundbreaking work, now difficult to find, and of exceptional importance as a reference in the study of early southeast Asian architecture, and bronze- and stone sculpture. Corners a little bumped, otherwise a very good, bright and clean copy. xiv, 178 pp., 9 colour and 87 b&w plates, 6 maps & plans, bibliographies, glossary, index. Size: 28 x 22 cm.
