Publisher's Red cloth boards with gilt blocked titles to spine, 230 x 150 mm approx. 3 vol set with all portraits, maps, illustrations, facsimile letter and title pages all as called for + fold out pedigree. Blind impressed circular "Presentation copy" to all title pages. The original owner being Adolphus William Ward one time Master of Peterhouse Cambridge with his book plate to all three front paste downs and subesquent - same family - daughter and son in law - Cynthia and John Barnes - later Sir John Barnes - son of the mathematician and cleric Bishop Barnes - book plates to front free end papers.
