Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. CHIPS FRAGMENTS AND VESTIGES OF VERSES BY GAIL HAMILTON AKA MARY ABIGAIL DODGE 1902. I live in Clinton, New York, the site of Hamilton College which is about 15 miles north of Hamilton, New York (the site of Colgate College) so when I saw this book by Gail Hamilton, I assumed it was something local. Turns out I was wrong but it took a bit of digging to find out how wrong. Naturally, Wikipedia helped me to understand this book and its origins. The book titled: Chips, Fragments and Vestiges of Verse, was written by Gail Hamilton which is the pen name of Mary Abigail Dodge. According to Wikipedia, Mary Abigail Dodge (March 31, 1833 August 17, 1896) was an American writer and essayist, who wrote under the pseudonym Gail Hamilton. Her writing is noted for its wit and promotion of equality of education and occupation for women. This volume, however, was published posthumously by her sister, M. Augusta Dodge who collected and arranged it, and submitted it for publication in 1902. This small hard cover book (5 ¾ x 7 ¾ inches, 224 pages) was published by Lee and Shepard of Boston, dated 1902 and a First Edition. The book is bound in finely ribbed beige cloth with gilt titles on cover and spine. The top edge is gilt and the page edges are deckled. I am including photos of the Table of Contents for your further information. The book has a few illustrations, including a portrait of the Poet/Author in rather severe Victorian dress and pose. Condition: This book is in very good condition. The hard covers are a bit soiled and it looks as though someone might have tried to wipe it clean on the leading edge of the front board which is a bit lightened. The spine is darkened too, from handling and particularly so at its base. A former owner has left his stamped name on the front endpaper but that is the only mark I found in the book. The interior pages are clean and unmarked although perhaps a bit toned but very lightly so. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight, sound and square. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. Language: ENG.…
