The book is bound in fine green cloth with illustration in white on the front cover and title and author in white on the spine. The covers have a line of sun-toning/ age-tanning/foxing along the top and bottom edges. Corners lightly rubbed and spine caps softened. Inscribed by the author and her husband Donald B MacMillan to Dr Harold S Babcock of Castine, Maine on the half title page. The last free endpaper was dog eared at it's bottom corner. Otherwise, pages are clean, smooth and unmarked. The binding is firm. endpapers illustrated with photographs from the journeys. The dust jacket is in good condition with a.75" closed tear on the bottom edge of the back panel and tears and ships on the top edge of the back panel and corners. The original price is on the front flap. Also includes 16 pages of photographs and drawings in black and white by Donald MacMillan and Rutherford Platt. The author was"The first white woman crew member ever to go to the arctic" according to the dust jacket. The author later curated and donated thousands of photographs, artifacts and recordings of Inuit for the Perry -MacMillan Arctic Museum at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, Maine. 287 pages.
