The book uses illustrations from popular 19th century publications to document the hostility toward the Chinese immigrants who were coming to fill the need for workers. Racist caricatures were common for the Chinese as well as for Blacks. The early 1850's and 60's show them met with curiosity and interest that changed and led to the Chinese Exclusion act in 1882.
