Publication date is unclear, Landrum was with the Peace Corps in Chile from 1969-1973, and he has inscribed the book to Jean, signed and dated 8/13/74. Lightly bumped and tanned with a small stain to the upper corner of the last few pages.

Expanded second edition, enlarged to 198 pp. with additional previously unpublished photographs (including the first appearance of color images), new critical texts (Yarur, Brunson, Sutherland, Lemebel, Ferrer), new bilingual Spanish-English presentation, and a redesigned 31-cm format retaining the full 1990 Donoso text. Cloth-bound, binding is square and tight, internally clean. Dust jacket has some edgewear and nicks. There is a three-inch long closed slice, vertical, to the center of the front panel of the dust jacket (presumably from inexpert use of box cutter to open shipping box), but the cover of the book is not affected. Bottom corner of spine is bumped, affecting dust jacket and binding but not text and page block.
