Aggiungi al carrelloPresumed first edition (no direct statement but with matching dates upon title and copyright pages). xiv, 334, [1] pages. Hardcover: H 24.25cm x L 16.75cm. No dust jacket. Handsome red cloth; mottling to boards; gilt stamping to spine and front board remains bright. Gilt top edge; deckle fore-edge and bottom edge. Personal sexta…nt-themed bookplate of E. Lee Dorsett (St. Louis physician, naval historian, and author Edward Lee Dorsett, 1883-1967) on front pastedown; affixed to rear free endpaper is an old b/w postcard titled "Home of Artemus Ward Waterford ME. 87." which is presumably a Dorsett embellishment. It should be noted that the Maine residence was actually the home of humorist Charles Farrar Browne, 1834-1867, who was not a relation to Artemas Ward (with small change to spelling) but chose the appellation as his nom de plume. Interior pages are otherwise clean. Binding is firm.
