First edition, first printing. 262 pp. Bound in publisher's brown cloth stamped in black; in the very scarce Aaron Douglas illustrated dust jacket, second or later issue with all titles on the rear panel published in 1930. Very Good, an ex-library copy with the usual markings, clear stain to top of front cover, contents tanned and lightly soiled. Dust jacket flaps were formerly adhered to pastedowns and crudely removed leaving damage to pastedowns and flaps; dust jacket has been backed with kraft paper. A serviceable copy of Thurman's first published novel and seminal work of the Harlem Renaissance that explores issues of colorism and prejudice within the Black community.
