Fascinating illustrated look at everyday life in small-town America at the turn of the twentieth century. Originally published in 1975, Hometown U.S.A. recreates the sights, sounds, customs, and experiences of American communities approximately 75 years earlier, drawing on period photographs, historical accounts, and cultural insights. The book explores how Americans lived, worked, traveled, shopped, and entertained themselves during a time of rapid change and growth. Written by Stephen W. Sears with contributions from Murray Belsky and Douglas Tunstell, this volume was published by American Heritage and contains 224 pages of historical photographs and commentary. An excellent addition to any collection of Americana, social history, genealogy, local history, or vintage photography books. The Barnes & Noble edition is especially appealing to collectors of historical reprints and American heritage publications. Please note: additional shipping charges may apply due to the book's size and weight.

Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. American Heritage Publishing Co.; 1975. 12-1/4", 224 numbered pages. A book lavishly illustrated with photographs looking at small town life within six chapters entitled: Main Street; All Around the Town; Home and Family; Growing Up; Life's Small Pleasures; and Remembered Moments. The book is NF quality, tan binding with medium brown quarter binding, gilt lettering on the spine with the American Heritage iconic eagle in gilt on the front board. The book is free of edge dings and corner bumps; head and heel of spine are lightly bumped with no damage, all edges are virtually free of wear; both boards are clean as is the spine. There is no fading. Except for original owner's name/date inked on the front of the first page after the FFEP, the interior is completely free of writing, stray marks and stains of any sort. The jacket is of VG quality--it has no tears, chips, scratches or fading. What it does have is masking tape on the reverse side, along both top and bottom edges, at the spine and both front and rear folds. The tape has made the jacket just a tad bit stiff; the tape has not caused any discoloration to the book but has left a slight residue at several points on the binding and has caused a "browning" of the jacket, most noticeable on the rear panel and both flaps, but also somewhat visible on the front panel. Due to the large size and heavy weight of this item, extra postage will be needed. Because I do not know how to do that via ABE, I have simply added $5 to the sale price to help cover this extra expense.
