Franz Anton Mesmer machte sich durch seine Magnettherapie einen Namen, die nach seiner Meinung nicht auf der Wirkung des Magneten, sondern auf einem dem menschlichen Körper ausströmenden "Fluidum" beruhte, das durch aufgeladene Gegenstände noch verstärkt werden konnte.
