Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Dan Beard Line Drawings (illustratore). First Edition. A superb copy with gleaming cover gilt, tight and unmarked except for a historic 1919 Asheville, North Carolina bookplate neatly tipped to the front endpaper. Twain wrote this novel with the help of phonographic dictation, likely the first author to do so. This was also an attempt to write a book without mention of the weather, the first of its kind in fictitious literature (although, of course, the first sentence of the second paragraph contains "fine, breezy morning"). Indeed, all the weather is contained in an appendix at the back of the book, which the reader is encouraged to reference from time to time. The story is a comedy of mistaken identities and multiple role switches. One rarely finds such a fine copy of this Twain work.
