So he set about to identify and describe in detail all known specialist books and pamphlets. He found 403 titles, 493 subsequent editions and variants, and 158 patents. Most are in English but a few in other European and Asian languages. For each he includes the formula, technical notes, contents, binding, copy seen, fingerprint, and notes.
