Paul Uwe Dreyer steht insofern in der Tradition des »Rechten Winkels« der zwanziger und dreißiger Jahre und er sprengt diese Tradition zugleich. Der 1939 in Osnabrück geborene Maler konnte noch Verbindung zu dem - ebenfalls in Osnabrück geborenen - Friedrich Vordemberge-Gildewart 1899-1962) finden. Fragen nach der Kontinuität, auch nach landsmannschaftlicher Übereinstimmung drängen sich auf. Der Einsatz der Farbe, die malerische Gestaltung, die von der Phantasie getragene Bilderfindung indessen weisen Dreyers Kunst innerhalb der verpflichtenden historischen Leitlinien einen besonderen und persönlichen Standort zu. In dem konsequent verfolgten Wechselspiel von Farbe und Form - der farbigen Form -, von konstruktiver Logik und emotionalem Ausdruck hat Paul Jwe Dreyer seine eigene »Handschrift« gefunden. Das gilt in übertragenem Sinne auch für das bildnerische Schaffen und Denken in den von Dreyer bevorzugten Sequenzen. Diese Sequenzen stehen folgerichtig im Mittelpunkt der Ausstellung. Die Ausstellung in Hannover und in Ludwigshafen gewinnt ihre Legitimation einerseits im »Abstrakten Kabinett« von El Liss-lzky hier, andererseits im Schwerpunkt der (Kunst des Konstruktivismus der Sammlung Hack dort. Die Konfrontation der Werke von Paul Uwe Dreyer mit den Werken der von _-s bereits als »klassisch« empfundenen 7 älteren Generation wird in Hannover und in Ludwigshafen ebenso unterschiedliche wie - auch deshalb - aufschlußreiche Einsichten und Erkenntnisse bringen. Die beiden Veranstalter haben an dieser Stelle allen denen herzlich zu danken, die an der Verwirklichung der Ausstellung teilhatten. Der Dank gilt einerseits den zahlreichen Leihgebern, die sich um der Sache willen für längere Zeit von ihren Bildern getrennt haben. Der Dank gilt andererseits denen, die die Ausstellung selbst erarbeitet, den Katalog gestaltet und die verschiedenen Textbeiträge beigesteuert haben. Zu allererst ist dem Künstler Dank zu sagen.
