In MP Chhindwara is one of the important potato growing districts, which has surplus of potato production and supply to other states. Keeping in view the important role played by potato cultivation in farmer's economy, its cost analysis will pin-point the possibilities of increasing return by reducing the cost factors and increasing the yield. Study portrays that on an average the cost of cultivation found to Rs.35099.89, as cost 'C1' followed by Rs.37447.51 as cost 'C2' and Rs.40957.49 as cost 'C3' per hectare respectively. The overall average gross income per hectare found to Rs 65268.32. The price spreads found vary through various marketing channels and place, at local (Chhindwara) market and at distance (Nagpur) market respectively. The producer received 78.77 per cent of price paid by the consumer i.e considerable gap of about 21 per cent. The study suggests it is desirable that efforts should direct towards lowering this spread. The present study is an attempt to study the efficiency of marketing channels for mustard in Morar block of Gwalior district of M.P. during 2010-11. The total production generated by large, medium and small farmers was 1195.9, 936.1, 205.1 qtl respectively. The total household requirement under different categories was found to be 120, 104.7 and 18.35 qtl for large, medium and small farmers respectively. Thus the marketed surplus generated was 1026 (86.72%) qtl by large farmers, 852.63 qtl (92.11%) by medium farmers and 198 qtl (97.53%) by small farmers. The marketing efficiency was in inverse relation with the total costs and margins. As the number of intermediaries increased, costs and margins increased and inverse was the marketing efficiency. The study reveals that price fluctuations of mustard were the main problem expressed by 90% of the sample farmers. To conclude the main areas of concern are restriction of agricultural marketing channel and adoption of modern agricultural marketing (Gwalior Mandi) to ensure better prices to the farmer and availability of agricultural commodities to the consumer.…

Study was undertaken to analyze the income, consumption and saving pattern of Agricultural landless labour. Results indicated that a major portion of crop production labourers were employed on other farm in third size group (101, 69 male and female). Other then crop production labour employed in livestock and dairy production (52, 39 male and female), agricultural labourers employed in sale of livestock (46, 15 male and female) and labourers engaged in non-agricultural farm activities (11, 4 male and female). It was estimated that gross consumption on different items in different size groups were Rs.38910, Rs.218640 and Rs.646542 for first, second and third size group respectively. It was found that 93.33% labourers faced the problems of seasonal work, 88.33% unequal wage of male and female, 83.33% face delayed payment of wage, 76.67%, irregular of low quality employment, 68.33% lack of safety health regulation, 56.67% lack of low quality employment, 53.33% lack of employment opportunity, 41.67% lack of choice for work. …
