Éditi…on originale devenue peu courante de cet ouvrage monumental sur les affections cardiaques congénitales, le premier de cette importance sur le sujet. Édouard Donzelot (1884-1960), élève de Vaquez, était professeur de clinique cardiologique à l'Hôpital Broussais, membre de l'Académie de médecine. François de Gaudart d'Allaines (1892-1974) était chirurgien des hôpitaux de Paris (spécialisé en chirurgie cardiaque) et professeur agrégé à la Faculté de médecine de Paris, membre de l'Académie de médecine et de l'Académie des sciences. L'ouvrage fut rédigé par l'équipe de ce centre médico-chirurgical de cardiologie de l'hôpital Broussais (Centre des Enfants Bleus). Il est basé sur une revue de la littérature et surtout sur la grande expérience des auteurs. En 5 ans d'activité, 1100 sujets porteurs de malformations cardiaques furent examinés dans ce centre de cardiologie, avec un traitement chirurgical pour 600 d'entre eux. L'iconographie est très abondante. Embryology, anatomy, and physiology are admirably combined and integrated to the extent that is possible at this time. The authors have utilized their clinical acumen and knowledge of electrocardiography, radiology, angiocardiography, and venous and arterial catheterization, and have reviewed not only the continental but also the world's literature in one large volume. The authors are seasoned clinicians and investigators of the University of Paris and have described in detail the methodology used, together with its usefulness and limitations. Surgical correction of the various lesions is described, and an evaluation of the present-day surgery is discussed. This book should be on the library shelf of all who are engaged in the study of patients with congenital heart disease.".
