Updated around 1970 by Claude Ducourtial, conservator of the National Museum of the Legion of Honour, this sumptuous in-quarto expands Lou…is Bonneville de Marsangy's foundational account with hundreds of illustrations in black and white and colour, all presented under the authority of Admiral Georges Cabanier, Grand Chancellor of the Order. What truly distinguishes this copy is the presence of an actual copy of the Legion of Honour medal a Knight's cross with red ribbon embedded in a velvet-lined recess on the upper board. The volume was personalized for M. Henri Lanoix, a Great War veteran, and accompanied by original black-and-white photographs and a contemporary newspaper clipping announcing his honour a layered archive of mid-twentieth-century French civic recognition. This is the personalized deluxe edition, prepared in the name of Henri Lanoix, a holder of the Legion of Honour in the Knight class. The accompanying original photographs and newspaper clipping documenting his appointment remain preserved within the volume as part of its historical provenance. The bordeaux morocco binding is handsomely finished with gilt-decorated panels of repeated oval motifs and a smooth spine adorned with gilt tools and stars; the spine has mellowed gracefully but remains structurally sound and unbroken. The boards are in good condition, and the interior is well preserved throughout, with the embedded medal secure in its velvet setting.
