Giorgio Morandi (1890-1964) is de grootmeester van de twintigste eeuwse stillevenkunst. Zijn beeldend onderzoek naar kleur, licht en schaduw, positief en negatief, vorm en tegenvorm lijkt voor een belangrijk deel ingegeven door de karakteristieken van de Bolognese stadsarchitectuur de zalm- en okerkleurige gevels, de aaneengesloten portico s en de ritmiek van zuilen en pilasters. De Groningse kunstenares Ada Duker (1955) ontdekte de relatie tussen het werk van de kunstenaar en de architectuur van zijn woonplaats. Ze vatte haar bevindingen samen in een reeks sobere foto s van architectonische details, in typerende mediterrane tinten. In dit boek wordt een ruime selectie getoond. De teksten zijn geschreven door Ada Duker en Alessia Masi, directeur van het Museo Morandi in Bologna.
