["The rock churches in the Buzau Mountains represent a complex of vestiges of rock constructions with dominant cultic and refuge functions, whose origin sometimes goes back to prehistory, located in the… area of the southeastern arc of the Carpathians, mainly in the area of Culmii Ivanetu, but also on to the right of Buzau in the Siriu Massif, as well as in the adjacent area of the Subcarpathia de Curbura (Dealurilor Botanului) over an area with a length of over 80 km. The highest density is found in the surroundings of Bozioru, Colti, Cozieni and Braesti communes, and in smaller numbers within the radius of Catina communes and the villages of Sibiciu, as well as the city of Nehoiu. In total, there are approximately 30 such facilities currently identified. Although most of these isolated constructions seem to have been dug into the rock during the medieval period, archaeological research has sometimes revealed a number of traces of habitation going back to the Bronze Age - the Monteoru culture or the beginning of the first Iron Age (Hallstatt).
