Having received his early education in Curacao he graduated from Columbia College at the age of sixteen. Dr. Peixotto became a pioneer in the field of preventive medicine. Peixotto became an editor of the New York Medical and Physical Journal in 1826, together with Drs. Beck and Bell, and the sole editor of the journal in 1829.
