Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the minds of arriving immigrants at the turn of the 20th century, a time of immense global migration. The author, a medical officer at Ellis Island, sought to understand the mental capabilities of these newcomers, many of whom had endured arduous journeys and were grappling with new experiences. Through a series of meticulously designed tests, the author examines the immigrants' abilities in arithmetic, memory, and reasoning. The book details the methods employed, the results obtained, and the author's interpretations of what these findings reveal about the mental state of the average immigrant. The author acknowledges the challenges of accurately assessing mental ability in a unique setting like Ellis Island, where anxieties and unfamiliarity might influence performance. The book's insights into the complexities of immigrant psychology and the need for nuanced understanding of their mental states remain relevant to this day. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
