Thirty Manual Medicine experts had come together in the education center of the Cloister Fischingen secluded in the eastern part of Switzerland and away from any city life, to discuss in a week long seminar the status of Man ual Medicine. Working together in the form of several groups, the following points were emphasized: - terminology - diagnostic criteria (are Manual Medicine findings reproducible ) - therapeutic interventions (degree of congruity of treatment plans) The participants demonstrated great enthusiasm and commitment, and so it was possible to have the content of the individual group's discussion com municated to and presented for further scrutiny to all participants during the seminar week. As members of the organizing committee and as the editors of this publica tion, we hope to help establish a more standardized international terminolo gy concerning the field of Manual Medicine. As this clinical trial (investigating the diagnostic reliability and the therapeu tic efficiency of MM) shows, factors such as terminology, diagnostic criteria and therapeutic plans are a prerequisite for multi-center studies. 228 pp. Englisch.

In Form von Gruppenarbeit wurden folgende Schwerpunkte gesetzt: - Terminologie, - Bewertung der Befunde (sind die manual-medizinischen Befunde rep- duzierbar ), - Therapieprogramm (Grad der Ubereinstimmung bei Festlegung der T- rapie). Dank dem groBen Engagement der Teilnehmer war es m6g1ich, bereits wah rend der Arbeitswoche die diskutierten Erfahrungen in Worte zu fassen und dem gesamten Gremium am Ende des jeweiligen thematischen Abschnitts zur allgemeinen Diskussion vorzustellen. Als Organisatoren dieser Arbeitswoche und als Herausgeber der vorliegen den Publikation hoffen wir, zur Erarbeitung einer standardisierten interna tionalen manualmedizinischen Terminologie gemeinsam einen Beitrag zu leisten. Denkt man an die geplante klinische Studie zur Evaluation der diagnosti schen Zuverlassigkeit und therapeutischen Effizienz der Manuellen Medi zin, dann ist die Ubereinstimmung in Terminologie, Befundbeschreibung so wie im therapeutischen Vorgehen eine Voraussetzung zur DurchfUhrung auch multizentrischer klinischer Studien. Die manuelle Medizin kann umfassende Anerkennung bei den medizini schen Fakultaten nur dann erreichen, wenn sie sich erstens einer allgemein verstandlichen Sprache bedient und zweitens, wenn sie die Methodik zu nachst in den eigenen Reihen uberpriift und anschlieBend den Schulmedizi nern vorlegt. 228 pp. Deutsch.
