This is a first edition (1991) of Seton Gordon: The Life and Times of a Highland Gentleman, by the Canadian author Raymond Eagle. (It's an actual first edition: the American editions dated 1992 also state first editions.) Seton Gordon CBE (1886-1977) was a Scottish naturalist, photographer and folklorist. He is famous for his 31 books on the natural history of Scotland, and he was a noted photographer of birds--he was the first to photograph a golden eagle. He was also very active in Scottish culture and acted as a piping judge at many gatherings. This copy is inscribed, to the original owners, at the title page, by the author. It's oversized - 8" x 10". The dust jacket (unclipped) has minor shelfwear. There is a liquid spill to the front endpaper--you could have a professional remove that page. It has one dogear and a tiny bit of shelfwear/rubbing to the bottom of the book. Otherwise, it's in perfect condition. Inscribed by Author(s).

His early years were spent in Eastleigh, Hampshire where many Commonwealth troops were camped in preparation for D-Day. This led to a lifeling interest in military history. In 1949 he joined the British army and was commissioned in the Royal Artillery. spending two years in Hong Kong before continuing in the Territorial Army (Militia). Inscribed to Jill Conway--possibly this was presented to Jill Ker Conway, feminist author and Smith College President who moved to Canada in 1964, and she took a teaching post at the University of Toronto. She became a dean in 1971 and a vice president in 1973. Henry Pybus "Budge" Bell-Irving, OC DSO OBE OBC ED CD (January 21, 1913 - September 21, 2002) was the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia from 1978 to 1983. Born in Vancouver, he was educated at Shawnigan Lake School on Vancouver Island and Loretto at Musselburgh, Scotland. He returned to attend the University of British Columbia, but withdrew because of the war. During World War II, Bell-Irving served with the Seaforth Highlanders of Canada and commanded a company of the battalion in Sicily and Italy and northwest Europe before becoming the commander of the 10th Canadian Infantry Brigade. Next he returned to Vancouver and he joined his family real estate company, Bell-Irving Insurance Agencies, which later merged with A.E. LePage in 1972. In 1974 he was elected Chairman of the Vancouver Board of Trade. In 1978, Governor General Jules Léger, on the advice of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, appointed him Lieutenant-Governor of BC.
