Z : 25 x 31,5 cm, 216 Seiten mit 160 Fotografien im Duoton, Leinen mit Schutzumschlag - Knappe 10 Jahre währte Marianne Breslauers Laufbahn als Fotografin, die sie zu einer aufstrebenden Fotojournalistin der späten Weimarer Republik werden ließ, ehe… Emigration und Kriegsausbruch unter den verheißungsvollen Beginn einen Schlußstrich setzten. Von 1927 1929 im renommierten Lette-Haus in Berlin ausgebildet, geht Marianne Breslauer zunächst nach Paris. Erste Anlaufstation ist kein geringerer als Man Ray, der die 20jährige anerkennend wissen läßt, sie könne schon alles und sei herzlich eingeladen, sein Atelier mitzubenutzen. Sie nimmt gerne an, doch ihr eigentliches Gebiet ist die Straße: die Quais der Seine, der Jardin du Luxembourg, die Schausteller an der Rue d Orléans. Und sie erregt mit diesen Fotos die Aufmerksamkeit illustrierter Zeitschriften in Deutschland, die sie bald mit Aufträgen versehen. Sie fotografiert das Who is Who der Kunst in den ausgehenden 1920er Jahren Berlins, fährt mit Annemarie Schwarzenbach nach Spanien und porträtiert in Zürich Erika Manns Kabarett «Die Pfeffermühle». Mit untrüglichem athmosphärischem Gespür und kompositorischem Einfallsreichtum fängt sie das Lebensgefühl einer untergehenden Epoche ein. 1936 muß sie Deutschland als Emigrantin endgültig verlassen das gesamte Fotomaterial im Gepäck. Ein knappes Jahrzehnt nur gab es die Fotografin Marianne Breslauer. Nach dem 2. Weltkrieg wurde aus ihr die Kunsthändlerin Marianne Feilchenfeldt.
