Sein Studium schloß er in Leipzig bei Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy ab. Nach Studienreisen durch Europa und Amerika, die ihn u. a. nach Italien und als Kapellmeister an die Pariser Italienische Oper führten, wurde er 1853 in Wien Kapellmeister, 1858 technischer Direktor der Hofoper. - Mit schönem Siegel.
