Hardcover. Condizione: gut. Mit der aktuellen Auflage des Eckert haben wir wohl das beste verfügbare Lehrbuch der Tierphysiologie vor uns. Seine Gliederung ist klar und umfassend, alle physiologischen Themen werden gründlich, anschaulich und in angemessener Tiefe abgehandelt. Wie schon in den vorherigen Ausgaben beschränkt sich…das Buch nicht auf Säuger oder Wirbeltiere, sondern erklärt physiologische Vorgänge auch bei Invertebraten mit vielen hervorragenden Beispielen, so dass auch der vergleichende Aspekt nicht zu kurz kommt. Die Vermittlung von Konzepten physiologischer Mechanismen hat Vorrang vor der enzyklopädischen Detaildarstellung, und doch bietet das Buch ein so umfangreiches Faktenwissen, dass es auch in diesem Punkt den anderen Physiologiebüchern, die in Deutschland auf dem Markt sind, nicht nachsteht. Nicht ohne Grund also gilt Roger Eckerts Tierphysiologie als ein Standardlehrbuch der Disziplin, und die 3. deutsche Auflage wird diesem Anspruch auch gerecht. Endlich, möchte man sagen, denn die vorangegangenen Auflagen waren nicht ohne Probleme, sachlich und sprachlich. Die für die Übersetzung aus dem Amerikanischen unvermeidliche Zeitverzögerung schien eine Ursache des Übels, weil die Übersetzer den seit der Originalausgabe veränderten Forschungsstand nicht berücksichtigten. In der 1. Auflage von 1986 wurde zum Beispiel Calzium als das Signal diskutiert, das den Dunkelstrom der Photorezeptoren vermindert, während man schon damals wusste, dass cGMP dieser Second Messenger ist. In der 2. Auflage von 1993 gab es sogar eine Grafik, die fälschlich IP3 als Vermittler der elektromechanischen Transduktion im Muskel zeigte, während der 1993 durchaus bekannte Signalweg über den Ryanodinrezeptor nicht erwähnt wurde. Das sind physiologische Prozesse von zentraler Bedeutung, die von allen Biologiestudenten gelernt werden. Die neue Auflage hat diese Fehler korrigiert. Soweit der Rezensent es beurteilen kann, entsprechen die Darstellungen dem aktuellen Forschungsstand. Überhaupt wurde die englische Ausgabe diesmal nicht nur übersetzt, sondern auch umfassend überarbeitet und in ein ausgezeichnetes deutsches Lehrbuch verwandelt. Davon zeugen unter anderem die Kapitel zu chemischen Sinnen und Verhaltensforschung, die deutlich über die Darstellung im englischen Original hinausgehen. Die grafischen Darstellungen in der Neuauflage sind ebenfalls vorbildlichkeine überflüssigen bunten Bilder, dafür durchgehend zweifarbige Schemata, übersichtlich und ausgezeichnet erklärt. In zahlreichen Boxen werden Theorien und mathematische Modelle dargestellt, alle wesentlichen Aspekte sind mit Abbildungen illustriert. Die Illustrationen sind umfassender und besser als in den meisten anderen Lehrbüchern der Biologie. Seit der zweiten Auflage sind zahlreiche Abbildungen hinzugekommen, alle von höchster Qualität. Daher ist das Buch auch dicker geworden was sich leider ebenfalls im gestiegenen Preis niederschlägt. Die Frage muss erlaubt sein, ob auf die ersten Kapitel nicht hätte verzichtet werden könnenDas Thema Moleküle, Energie und Biosynthese wird in jedem Biochemielehrbuch ausführlicher abgehandelt, und das neue Methoden Kapitel ist zu oberflächlich, als dass es wirklich von Nutzen sein könnte. Gleichwohl DerEckert ist ein Buch, das die zentrale Disziplin der Tierphysiologie umfassend und didaktisch ansprechend darstellt, ein Buch, das sich jeder Biologe erarbeiten sollte. RezensentDr. Jörg Mey Wer als Student der Biologie oder der Biochemie etc. in der Tierphysiologie-Vorlesung sitzt und ein Buch sucht, welches er/sie vorlesungsbegleitend sowie für die Prüfung nutzen kann, dem kann ich dieses Buch bestens empfehlen! Das Buch ist sehr Vorlesungs-orientiert geschrieben. Der Stil des Autors ist sehr verständlich, der Text lässt sich flüssig lesen. Besonders bei Sachbüchern ein wichtiges Argument. Inhaltlich ist das Buch auch sehr umfangreich. Besonderes Vorwissen benötigt man meines Erachtens nicht. Das Buch beinhaltet für alle Fälle einen einführenden Teil, in dem die Basics zu finden sind, wie z. B. Teile aus dem chemischen Bereich. Die Graphiken und Tabellen, begleitend zum Text, sind dreifarbig gehalten. Eine Überladung wurde vermieden, so dass diese auch leicht verständlich sind. Wichtige Stichworte sind in dem Text durch Fettdruck hervorgehoben. Fazit: Sehr viel Wissen leicht verständlich und gut lesbar in einem stabilen Einband. Die Investition hat sich für mich sehr gelohnt!
