Oversize HC soundly bound in original slate gray cloth lettered in white. Organized and promoted by William Randolph Hearst the book was a celebrity-packed anthology designed to raise money and rally international and especially American sympathy for Belgium after the 1914 invasion. Includes original contributions (poems and texts) by major figures including Rudyard Kipling, Thomas Hardy, Edith Wharton, and others, together with tipped-in color platesspecial contributions and authorized reproductionsby leading illustrators including Arthur Rackham, Edmund Dulac, Kay Nielsen, and Maxfield Parrish, produced in support of Belgian relief. Spine lettering slightly dulled; light toning to cloth at spine and along edges of upper board. Contents generally bright and neat, with light foxing adjacent to some plates; a few black-and-white plates on thinner glossy paper show mild rippling. About VG. Illustrated by Rackham, Arthur; Dulac, Kay Nielsen, Maxfield Parrish (illustratore).
