This printing of the Lord of the Rings represents the first translation into German of one of Tolkien's most beloved works. The three volumns were translated by Margaret Carroux. While researching these books, I found that these three books are not the first printing from 1969, but are definately second or third printing from between 1972 and 1976 before Hobbit Press Im Ernst Klett Verlag became Klett-Cotta in 1978. Unfortunately there is no markings indicating which edition they represent. The boards on all three books are flat and parallel and the cloth bindings are in excellent shape. There is foxing on the edges off all three volumns and the front bottom corners of each book have a bit of discoloration on them from sitting on a shelf. The leading edge of the dust jackets have slight dings and the dust jacket of the first book and a minute tear on the top right edge. The maps of Middle Earth on the inside back covers are intact, still attached and very crisp and clear. These volumns are an excellent addition to any Tolkien collector's library at a resonable price regardless of whether you speak German or not.
