"The Copeland family of Listre, North Carolina, goes back a long way. A Copeland bride planted wisteria by her back porch 20 years before the Civil War. Now her vine has just about taken over the woods around the family graveyard. Think what that wisteria vine has seen, and what it could tell if it could talk! "When the family gathers every May to clean up the graveyard and clip the vine back away from the tombstones, the old people talk to keep the path to the past open. They tell all the best stories again and they make sure the new brides understand how everybody (dead and alive) is kin and who is named for whom. "Meredith's father, Albert Copeland, keeps a sort of written family record. He keeps it in some notebooks he bought to log the flights of his home-built floatplane, a project Albert first undertook back in 1956. "; 7¾" - 9¾" Tall.

Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Illustrated by Bacon, Paul (cover) (illustratore). First Edition. Dark red cloth over light red boards, 247 pp. Spine cocked, corners bumped, a little edge wear and rubbing, small chip to bottom edge and to upper corner, binding tight, owner's name black out on front end paper. Jacket in new Brodart, a little edge wear and rubbing. Inscribed and signed by author on title page. "Clyde Edgerton is back! With another great story, a whole new cast of character, and the return of two old favorites. Remember Wesley from 'Walking Across Egypt' - the orphan boy who'd got in trouble for 'borrowing' cars? And Mattie, who took him in, got his teeth fixed, and brought him to church with her. Well, Wesley's twenty-four years old now, and Mattie's slowed down so much that he looks after her almost as much as she looks after him. A lot of the churching of hers took, though, and he wouldn't be in Ted and Ned's halfway house except somebody forgot and left their keys in the ignition of a white Continental. "The Lord only knows where Wesley's headed from here. He's a good bricklayer, so good they put him in Project Promise so he can teach it to a boy from Special Ed. Then there's his band, the Noble Defenders of the Word. Wesley's even tried his hand at some preaching. Can you believe it? Plus he's got his eye on a girl over there at the Nutrition House. Like that old blues song says, 'He's a Killer Diller from the South.'"; 7¾" - 9¾" Tall; Signed by Author.

Editore: Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill in association with Taylor Publishing Company, 1988
Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. Jacket design and illustration by Paul Bacon (illustratore). 1st Edition. A first edition of Clyde Edgerton's third novel, a warm and humorous Southern family story centered on the Copeland family of Listre, North Carolina. The narrative unfolds through memories, family lore, and the notebooks kept by patriarch Albert Copeland documenting the flights of his homemade floatplane and the everyday moments of family life. Blending gentle comedy with reflections on tradition, memory, and small-town Southern culture, the novel continues Edgerton's reputation for affectionate portrayals of rural North Carolina life that began with Raney and Walking Across Egypt. Published in 1988 by Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill - an independent North Carolina publisher known for launching notable Southern literary voices - the book reflects the regional storytelling tradition that helped define late-20th-century Southern fiction. The volume includes a title page illustration by Steven Cragg and design by Molly Renda. Condition: Very Good / Very Good. Book: gray cloth boards clean with light shelf wear; binding tight and square; pages bright and clean with mild foxing along the fore-edge only; no writing or marginalia observed. An embossed ex-libris stamp ('Library of Laurel A. Gutridge') appears at the lower right corner of the front flyleaf; otherwise interior unmarked. Dust Jacket: Very Good, unclipped with original $16.95 price present. Light rubbing and mild edge wear with a few small surface creases; no major tears or losses. Clyde Edgerton (b. 1944) is an American novelist and former Air Force pilot known for humorous and compassionate portrayals of life in the American South. Raised in North Carolina, he taught English and creative writing for many years at UNC Wilmington and other institutions. His debut novel Raney (1985) became a regional bestseller and established him as a distinctive voice in contemporary Southern fiction, followed by the acclaimed Walking Across Egypt (1987) and The Floatplane Notebooks (1988).

Libro.

Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. The Bible is full of incense. It permeates both the Old Testament and the New. Explore its purpose in Holy Scripture, its history in the Church, and its use in the parish. Discover how incense in Christian worship encourages our faith and enhances our awareness of God's holy presence. "It is always wonderful for a student of Holy Scripture to share his knowledge and experience with the rest of the Church. In this book on the use of incense in the worship of the Church, Fr. Paul Edgerton has given us a very practical explanation of the reason God says he likes incense in worship and why incense has been used from pre-Christian Jewish worship down to the present Christian usage." - from the foreword by Bishop Daniel R. Morse The Rev. Dr. Paul Edgerton is a presbyter of the Reformed Episcopal Church, ACNA. He studied at Cranmer Theological House (ThM) and The Robert E. Webber Institute for Worship Studies (DWS).
