Prima edizione
Hardcover. Condizione: Good. 1st Edition. First Editions (1933-1958) of the joint publications of the Egypt Exploration Society (Archaeological Survey) and the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago. The four volumes contain brief introductions, notes and 231 plates covering the seven chapels, Osiris complex and second hypostyle of the Seti I Temple. Each volume is a G+ to VG elephant folio (24 inches tall x 19 inches) hardcover in NO dust jacket as issued. The volumes are bound in full tan cloth with gilt spine lettering and a stamped gilt decoration on the upper board. All volumes have a bit of bowing to the boards since the book is thicker at the spine than at the fore edge, light bumping to the spine head and tail and some light soiling. Vol. I has a rubbed and exposed bottom corner, while Vol. IV is a bit cleaner and has brighter gilt, but also has some staining on the bottom edge of and around the spine tail, a small cut in the spine tail, and some bowing or lift in the lower corner of the upper board. All four volumes have foxing on the end papers and a bookplate at least partially attached to the front paste-down. Vol. II has some additional foxing to the front matters, but in the other volumes, additional foxing appears limited to an occasional appearance in the gutter of a non-plate sheet or on the verso or recto of a plate--not on the plate itself, The set also has a margin smudge or two, and some volumes have very light evidence of handling in the lower corner. Vol. III has paper tears in the gutters of the still sturdy front and rear hinges, a bottom corner crease to the first three leaves, a puncture and additional impression marks in the upper corner of the frontispiece, and laid-in notes on a number of the plates. Still, this set is otherwise clean, complete and securely bound. More specific details about the contents of individual volumes follow: 1933's Volume I: The Chapels of Osiris, Isis and Horus (Pp. xi, 40 pls. (8 color, 6 photos)); 1935's Volume II: The Chapels of Amen-Re', Re'Harakhti, Ptah, and King Sethos (Pp. vii, 46 pls. (4 color, 12 photos)); 1938's Volume III: The Osiris Complex (Pps. ix, 65 pls. (13 colored, 2 photos)); and 1958's Volume IV: The Second Hypostyle Hall (Pps. xvIII, 80 pls. (6 color, 5 photos)). **The size, weight and value of this four-volume set make shipping somewhat problematic. Suffice to say, special arrangements and extra charges may be required, and expedited and/or international orders may not accepted unless mutually satisfactory arrangements are reached.
