A very handsome collectible example of one of Bennett's most enduring educational titles. One of the overlooked strengths of this edition is its distinguished group of illustrators and designers. Interior illustrations were created by Daniel Clifford, Leslie Evans, Susan Havice, Beth Krommes, Sara Love, Ashley Van Etten, and Karen Watson, while the striking collage-style dust jacket features Karen Watson's cover illustration and was designed by Sue Kyong Suk Brooks. Beth Krommes would later become one of America's most celebrated children's illustrators, winning the 2008 Caldecott Medal for The House in the Night. This volume captures several accomplished illustrators working together before many reached the height of their careers, giving the book additional interest beyond its literary content. William J. Bennett (b. 1943) is an American author, educator, and former U.S. Secretary of Education.
