The text of this edition is that of the Cambridge Edition of 1849, edited by Horace E Scudder, which in turn was an expansion of the earlier Riverside Edition which Whittier himself saw through the press and for which he revised poems and wrote an Introduction and Notes to the poems. The new edition retained Whittier's arrangement and notes, but added the poems in 'At Sundown', which was published after the appearance of that earlier edition, and a few other poems not formerly included. BINDING/CONDITION: dark maroon cloth with silver and gilt, the top edge tint is a light orange-brown shade; one small ink mark on the front endpaper, otherwise a Very Good+ book, with a Good+ dust jacket; the dust jacket is faded at the spine, and is price clipped. notes, indexes.
