Inscribed by John McDonald to another previous owner on the half-title page in ball point ink and dated 1998. Despite the stated flaws , a good working copy of the first edition. ; Date of 1947 on title page and on copyright page is Scribner's "A" along with Scribner's colophon devise on bottom of page. Inscribed by McDonald to previous owner on half-title page and dated 5/16/98. On front free page is another previous owner's bookplate tipped-in and yet another po's name and address written in ink. McDonald's introduction discusses Gordon's sizable impact upon fly fishing and fly tying and his prologue touches upon the lure of fly fishing. The text of the book is divided into two parts, The Notes of Theodore Gordon and The Letters of Theodore Gordon and the appendix. Illustrated end pages and in-text black and white drawings. Gordon was instrumental for the introduction of dry fly fishing to the US from England. Since the English fly recipes did not match American insects, Gordon extensively studied the entomology of native flies. He spent his time fishing the Neversink and Beaverkill Rivers in New York and helped the Catskills become an international mecca for fly fisherpeople. ; In-text black and white drawings; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; xxix, 551 pages pages; Signed by Editor.
