McDonald's introduction discusses Gordon's sizable impact upon fly fishing and fly tying and his prologue touches upon the lure of fly fishing. The text of the book is divided into two parts, The Notes of Theodore Gordon and The Letters of Theodore Gordon and the appendix. Illustrated end pages and in-text black and white drawings. Gordon was instrumental for the introduction of dry fly fishing to the US from England. Since the English fly recipes did not match American insects, Gordon extensively studied the entomology of native flies.
