Hardcover. Condizione: New. 1st Edition. The interconnectedness between people and their environment has been a matter of discussion for long. Population size, components of growth, settlement patterns, and resource availability will certainly impact the environment. A better understanding of how and when these aspects of popula…tion growth impact the environment is required. It is also important to know how the environmental changes impact the health and well-being of population. There is a need for discussion based on scientific evidence on the linkages between population, health, and environment. In this regard, it is important to promote exchange of knowledge and ideas from multiple perspectives. Therefore, the focus of this book is to examine these complex issues in detail, its interrelationships with supportive evidence and also to identify thrust areas for further research and action. From a multidisciplinary perspective, it highlights the issues relating to the environment and discusses its linkages with fertility, health and family planning. This edited book, consisting of selected papers from a national seminar, highlights the need for interdisciplinary approach to address complex issues like this. This publication also emphasizes the urgency for further research and deeper investigation to explore the linkages between population and environment in low-resources situations. This will be a useful reference material not only for social scientists but also for those who are interested in population, health and development in general.

Hardcover. Condizione: New. 1st Edition. Since the occurrence of Green Revolution in 1960s, the farm technology development has picked up the pace and we are witnessing unprecedented growth in number of technologies that are being developed and transferred by research institutions. However, we are also witnessing the fact that m…ost of these technologies are inappropriate to the situation and fading away without showing any significant impact on farm productivity and profitability. On the other hand Grassroots innovations are highly effective in addressing the farm production and marketing problems in a sustainable manner utilizing locally available resources. However, the documentation, upscaling and outscalling of such inventions takes place rarely. This situation calls for identification, recognition, upscaling and outscalling of grassroots innovations and integrating them with formal system of technology development. This book provides details of insightful experiences gained in upscaling and outscalling of grassroots innovations and challenges faced in integrating grassroots innovations system with the institutional innovations system. On the basis of experiences of individuals involved in the documentation and upscaling of grassroots innovations, this book also makes an attempt to provide strategies for overcoming these integration challenges. Further, the book provides prospects of farmer-led innovations and farmer participatory research, innovative strategies for doubling farmers income, entrepreneurial innovations and experiences of innovative farmers.

Improving inherent potential of crops for increased natural and applied inputs use efficiency, stress tolerance and favourable proximate composition changes through genetic manipulations is one of the several approaches to sustain high productivity along with high quality and nutritive value in different agro-ecological conditions to increase the global per capita food supply and hence for reducing hunger and nutrition insecurity. The demand for healthy foods and food supplements are on rise. Even in countries with high malnutrition and hunger, around 25-30 per cent of food may be wasted due to inefficient harvesting and storage. The amounts of post harvest losses of fresh produce are huge in developing countries and this also adds up t the growing problem of food insecurity. This book "Production and Processing of Food Crops for Value Addition: technology and Genetic Options" brings together a good collection of contributions on various basic and applied aspects of crop improvement for tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses, accumulation of favourable components, heterosis, unconventional crops; Nutrition and quality aspects of food products from wheat, triticale, apple and problems due to nutrition deficiency, food processing covering post harvest processing for development of value added products for instant uses and enhancing shelf life of products and textural and nutri.

PPR in small ruminants. 25. Re-emergence of glanders. 26. GIS remote sensing in veterinary science. Since the growth of agriculture has nearly approached a plateau because of dwindling landholdings, over exploitation of soil and water resources and more importantly finite land resources, farmers are most likely being drawn in to focusing more on livestock component of the mixed or integrated farming. On the hindsight, the hill agro-ecosystem is more fragile and vulnerable and sustainability with livestock production seems more feasible. Further, livestock production is poised to take a quantum leap in view of the projected increase in the demand for animal products. Considering the potentials of livestock production to provide unique opportunities for meaningful and lucrative employment to the whole lot of small, marginal and landless farmers spreading across more than half of the globe, the book on Animal Health and Production encompasses views of many learned contributors pertaining to issues related to livestock sector's progress and prospects.

Atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO) concentration crossed 400 ppm in 2015 from 279 ppm of preindustrial period. Similarly compared to preindustrial era, the methane (CH) concentration increased from 722 ppb to 1800 ppb and nitrous oxide (N.O) concentration from270 ppb to 323 ppb in 2011. Increasing GHGs concentration in the atmosphere has created radiative imbalance resulting in more energy from the sun entering than exiting the top of the earth's atmosphere. All the above, individually and collectively, adversely influence the total agriculture productivity. Increased awareness during 1990s about adverse effect of deforestation and other land-use changes on CO, stock coupled with more emphasis on afforestation checked rise in atmospheric carbon-di-oxide in the recent years.
