This is a Lakeside Classics edition with English translation of his original 1884 German edition. The story of Mohr's coast-to-coast railroad journey from Boston to Seattle and back to New York during the latter half of 1883. He visited notable places and cities like Niagara Falls, Chicago, Dakota Territory (this was 1883), the Rocky Mountains, Yellowstone, Portland, St. Louis, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. He was present at the "last spike" ceremony of the Northern route at Deer Lodge valley, Montana on September 8 (he was invited). Has 39 monochromatic illustrations plus a frontispiece of the author. Good colorful reading - and a nice, crisp copy. Deep blue cloth boards with gilt publisher's decoration on front and gilt titles on spine. Small octavo (4-1/2" by 6-7/8"). Illustrated. 398 pages, including index and publisher's listing of Lakeside Classics to date.
