Modotti developed as a photographer as an assistant, mentee, lover, and muse of Edward Weston, developed her passion for politics from her experiences in Moscow, Spain, and Mexico, and was largely ignored as an artist until the second wave of Feminism rediscovered her work thirty years after her death. Though she died at age 45 in1942, her obituary only appeared in the NY Times on September 1, 2025.
