Tabula is the offspring of the research that has been conducted by the artist Edith Derdyk since 2009, standpoint of which is the reading of the exquisite translation of Genesis by the Brazilian concrete poet Haroldo de Campos in the book Bere?Shith ? A Cena da Origem (Bere?Shith ? The Genesis Scene) (Perspectiva Publishing Company ? 1993), whose ?transcreation? puts into perspective the visual poetry nature of the written word when it is savoured in its poetic state. Genesis is one of the first archaic narratives in the form of poetry that addresses the genesis mythology within western civilization culture, origins of which goes back to Sumerian texts describing the Gilgamesh Epic stories. According to the poet Haroldo de Campos, those are the first mythical narratives in which words appear as visual poetry and poetry capsules, language structure of which is based on consonants, quite distant from our experience of what is known as ?word? that is based on phonetic language: a sign system for representing sounds. The book is composed of one hundred imagery pieces resulting from the multiple overlapping of texts extracted from the first pages of approximately eighty bibles ? whose pages describe the ?first day? of genesis, on which the study of the poet Haroldo de Campos ? in the book the ?The Genesis Scene? ? was based. The translation of the latter was based on original texts in Aramaic/archaic Hebrew. The books used in the work were bought at different second-hand bookstores in São Paulo, and consisted of copies of popular issues in the most different versions, editions, languages and formats. The resulting imagery make the texts almost unreadable, thus puzzling the relationship between the original text, written in Aramaic language (following the trails of translation and interpretation procedures adopted by Haroldo de Campos) and our western phonetic text. The pages have been all folded and allow a random reading, enjoyment of which becomes an unlimited process, thus transforming the thousands of interpretations that have been made throughout the centuries on this original text into a metaphor, and making the reader a co-author.LIMITED EDITION OF 50.
