Published to coincide with exhibition 'David Hockney RA;82 portraits and 1 still-life' July-October 2016. Hard Cover. Royal 4to 12½" x 10 [31.7cm x 25.4cm] approx. 169 pp inc directory of sitters and other rear matter. Magnificent turquoise boards with blind stamped chair and David Hockney to the upper board. Yellow titles to the spine panel. The book is square and very tight. There are no previous ownership inscriptions. The boards are clean and unfaded, the corners and spine ends sharp. The pages and closed page edges are clean, white and bright. The binding is tight - no cracked hinges. No remainder marks. The dust jacket on this copy is sharp, very bright, unfaded, and is complete with no wear. It is unclipped. It has wide gatefold sleeves along the upper and lower edges adding elegance to his handsome book. Magnificently illustrated in full colour throughout on heavy stock, this is a beautiful book in as new condition. Loosely laid in are three complimentary tickets to the exhibition, a promotional postcard featuring four portraits, two leaflets about Hockney and sitting for him 'A Guide for Friends'. There is also a three page article from the Royal Academy magazine dated summer 2016 about the exhibition and Hockney. All in all a handsome bundle. This focused display looked exclusively at the portraits he painted in the years from 2012-2016 the subjects of which are friends, family and art-world luminaries. After the stroke that touched his life in 2012, Hockney stopped painting altogether. His move from Yorkshire to California coincided with his decision to revisit acrylic paints and bold colours. Vibrant, observant and full of life, these portraits mark a return to vivid, Technicolor form. Incisive text from Tim Barringer places these works within Hockney's development as a portrait painter, while curator Edith Devaney interviews the artist about the series, which he describes as 'twenty-hour exposures', in reference to the time each portrait takes to paint. The book will show the stages of each painting, from first to last mark, to give the reader a unique insight into Hockney's working method. The dust jacket will be protected with a new inert archival Brodart sleeve which is removable. Please contact us if you would like any more information or additional images. This summer 2016 publication brings together the recent body of work by David Hockney, perhaps the most popular and versatile British artist of the last century. Following his sweeping exploration of landscape in the Royal Academy?s galleries in 2012, this focused display will look exclusively at the portraits he has been painting in the last few years ? the subjects of which are friends, family and art-world luminaries. After the sad events that touched his life in 2012, Hockney had stopped painting altogether. His move from Yorkshire to California coincided with his decision to revisit acrylic paints and bold colours. Venezia, Ca' Pesaro, 24 giugno - 22 ottobre 2017. A cura di Edith Devaney. Traduzione di Pradella C. Testi di Tim Barringer. Milano, 2017; br., pp. 176, 140 ill. col., cm 24x32. (Arte Moderna. Cataloghi).
