Very Good in Slightly Worn Dustjacket With A Small Piece Missing From The Back Bottom. 0803238584. 308 pages. hardcover. Jacket design by Richard Eckersley. keywords: Latin America Mexico History. DESCRIPT…ION - The first classroom reader devoted exclusively to nineteenth-century Mexican history, this volume brings together twenty-six essays and primary documents treating Mexico's Age of Caudillos. The readings - many by Mexican politicians, historians, and commentators and available here in English for the first time - are organized into four groups representing major eras in the early national development of Mexico: Independence, the age of Santa Anna, La Reforma and the French Intervention, and the Porfiriato. The selections range from autobiography to political and economic history, from the history of ideas to philosophy and social history. Interpretive essays, representing both traditional and revisionist views, include classics like Lesley Byrd Simpson's 'Santa Anna's Leg' as well as more recent studies such as Rodolfo Acuña's 'The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo.' The primary materials comprise both political documents - for example, the Plande Iguala, the Liberal Party Manifesto of 1906, and Madero's Manifesto of 1910 - and contemporary personal accounts such as Santa Anna's 'The Alamo' and Jose yes Limantour's description of public opinion during the Diaz era. Each section opens with an introductory discussion of the important historical themes for the period in question, and each reading is preceded by a brief headnote placing it in context. a bibliographical essay is included as a guide to further reading and research. W. Dirk Raat is a professor of history at the state University College of New York at Fredonia and the author of El Positivismo durante el Porfiriato (1975), Revoltosos! Mexico's Rebels in the United States, 1903-1923 (1981), and The Mexican Revolution, 1900-1940: Historiography and Bibliography (1982). inventory #13402 Very Good in Slightly Worn Dustjacket With A Small Piece Missing From The Back Bottom.
