Dr. Blackwell is president of Baptist Children's Homes of North Carolina. Since July 1983, when he assumed this position, he has devoted himself to the ministry of "sharing hope?changing lives." Dr. Blackwell has led BCH to become child-centered and family-focused, addressing needs with specific, goal-oriented programs of service. Under his leadership, BCH became accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children, Inc. He has directed the formulation and implementation of strategic plans, the successful completion of two major capital campaigns, and the creation of public-private partnerships to better serve youth and families. Dr. Blackwell is also a sought after motivational speaker and author of four books, New Millennium Families (2000), A Place for Miracles (2002), UpsideDown Leadership (2003) and Riches Beyond Measure (2004). The Biblical Recorder cited Dr. Blackwell as one of the 30 most influential Baptists in North Carolina in the 20th century. Frank Winfred "Wint" Capel was a newspaper reporter-editor for more than 40 years. Capel was the first editor of The Thomasville Times, founded as a five-day morning publication in July 1958. He retired in 1987 with the title of Times Editor Emeritus, but the paper continued to publish columns he wrote. The Thomasville City Council commissioned him to produce two histories. The first, A Recent History of Thomasville, covered the period 1952-1991. The other was a sesquicentennial project entitled Thomasville 1852-2002, A History of City Government. Other books of his are Just Call Me Mickey, On The Square, a biography of a distinguished Thomasville son, George L. Hundley, in 1995; The Good Doctor's Downfall, the only book about the murder of a Thomasville police chief by a prominent Thomasville physician, and In Words and Pictures, Thomasville in the Nineteen-Twenties and Fiery Fast-Baller, the Life of World Series Pitcher Johnny Allen, a Major League Baseball star who grew up in Thomasville. He served during World War II as a non-commissioned officer in a U. S. Army Railway Operating Battalion for two and a half years, most of that time in the European Theater of Operations.
