Henri-Edmond Limet dit Edmond Bailly, né le 19 juin 1850 à Lille et mort le 8 septembre 1916 à Paris est un libraire, éditeur, écrivain et compositeur français. Edmond Bailly est un musicien et un écrivain d'inspiration symbolique, theosophique et ésotérique. Il a éc…rit des essais, des récits et des articles sur la « musique ésotérique ». Son travail le plus remarquable fut sans doute sa direction de la Librairie de l'art indépendant ouverte à Paris au 11, rue de la Chaussée d'Antin. Il y édite plusieurs revues et s'occupe de jeunes auteurs. Ainsi il devient l'un des animateurs du symbolisme mais aussi de la Société théosophique. André Gide, Paul Claudel, Henri de Régnier, Pierre Louÿs, Louis Ménard débutent chez lui, et publient leurs premiers ouvrages à la Librairie de l'art indépendant qui ferma en 1917. Il fut aussi le directeur fondateur du Comptoir d'édition.

(avertissement) Exemplaire bien complet du feuillet d'errata volant et d'une épreuve sur chine fort des Bas fonds de la Société par Joseph Prudhomme. Les exemplaires vélin (300 ex.) étaient vendus 15 francs tandis que les exemplaires sur Chine (50 ex.) étaient vendus 35 francs. Exemplaire auquel on joint une lettre autographe de Félicien Rops à une dame (à propos de son ami Henri Liesse) : "Paris le 4 nov. 1889 // Madame, // Voici la dernière adresse de notre ami Henri Liesse : // 17 Rue Dupont // Schaerbeeck // Bruxelles. // Je l'ai vu il y a un an à Bruxelles ; - il fait un article hebdomadaire dans le supplément littéraire de l'Indépendance Belge. Il y a quelques jours, j'ai été à Bruxelles, sans pouvoir le prévenir de mon arrivée ; - je revenais de Namur, - et je ne l'ai pas vu, ne restant à Bruxelles que quelques heures. // Je vous dirai d'ailleurs, que la conversation entre nous est devenue difficile. Comme je l'aime beaucoup, je ne peux m'empêcher de blâmer sa conduite littéraire, qui consiste à s'attarder sur une œuvre, sans la publier, car le fameux roman est toujours dans les limbes de l'enfantement, comme il l'était à l'époque du départ de Liesse pour Chooz. Cela lui mange sa vie, lui impose toutes sortes de privations, et finit par le faire passer pour un monomane. - Il s'entête, la discussion s'aigrit, et l'on se quitte froidement, ce qui m'est pénible. Félicien Rops. N.B. Vous pourriez écrire aux bureaux de l'Indépendance Belge à Bruxelles, en même temps que rue Dupont. Lemonnier écrivit à propos de Liesse : "Liesse qui ne fit, je crois, qu'un livre, mais qui le fit bien, d'une jolie tête annelée en ce temps, avec des yeux frais de jouvenceau et un sourire mouillé d'où les vers ne cessaient pas de tomber…". Henri Liesse (1849-1921). Romancier belge. Liesse est membre du premier comité de rédaction du journal belge L'Artiste (1875-1880). Il compte également au nombre des fondateurs de L'Art Libre, revue artistique et littéraire qui verra le jour à Bruxelles en 1871. Liesse est l'un des plus fidèles amis de Rops et fait partie de ses correspondants réguliers. Leur relation est attestée depuis 1872. La dame à qui ce billet est adressé n'a pu être identifiée. Rare sur papier de chine. Avec une lettre autographe de Félicien Rops. Félicien ROPS (illustratore). Signé par l'auteur.
