Final marked page states "Thirty-five copies of this catalogue have been issued with eight proof impressions of the original woodblocks". This copy marked number 9 in blue pen following that statement. Front free endpaper inscribed by publisher/compiler, "To D---, who share our enjoyment of these special blocks, as well as Caldecott's books. With affection, Gail". Pages clean and bright. Copiously illustrated and decorate…d in colour by Walter Crane and printed by Edmund Evans. Original vellum-backed gilt decorated brown cloth, top edge gilt. The vellum is slightly aged but in better than average condition, binding is sound , pages are clean with a very occasional light fox mark, corners are slightly bumped - overall a very good copy, better than usually found. See the two men's entries in the Oxford DNB. Webb's book contained four engravings from drawings by Birket Foster, the last ('The Tomb of Thomas Lawson') of which is absent. The first has 'E. EVANS Sc.' engraved into the plate; the other two, evidently the work of the same hand, are unattributed. Three proof engravings, on wove…paper roughly 20.5 x 13.5.
