März 1536 verliess Calvin "mit den Häuptern der evangelischen Partei sein Asyl [bei Aosta]. Da der St. Bernhard von Wachen besetzt war, sah sich die Flüchtlingsschar genötigt, einen andern Weg einzuschlagen. In die Schlucht des Buttier hinabsteigend [.] schlugen sie über das auf aussichtsreicher Terrasse des Talhanges gelegene Roiseau den Weg nach Val Pelline ein, überschritten durch das Val d'Ollomont ansteigend, das Joch zwischen Mont Avril und Mont Gelé, den Col de Fenêtre und erreichten talabwärts wandernd das Rhonetal. [.] So weit die Tradition. [.] Einer [dieser Glaubens-] Flüchtlinge mag es gewesen sein, der in dem Landsitz vor den Toren Aostas sich aufhielt [.] und, zur Flucht genötigt, den Weg nach dem Col de Fenêtre einschlug. Nicolas Doxat (Yverdon 1682-20.3.1738 Belgrad), ref., von Démoret VD. Militär in Fremden Diensten, stand anfänglich in holländischen Diensten, trat 1712 in den Dienst Österreichs und nahm an Feldzügen in Sizilien und gegen die Türken teil. Als Militäringenieur entwarf er die Pläne verschiedener Festungswerke (1709-11) und befestigte das eingenommene Belgrad. Er nahm an der Eroberung von Nisch (Serbien) teil, musste aber die Stadt nach dreimonatiger Belagerung 1737 übergeben und erhielt freien Abzug.
