Enrique Climent ( Valencia , Spain, 1897- Mexico City , 1980) Was A Social Spanish Painter And Graphic Designer Who Is Linked With The Drive Group In Spain Of The "New Art". Climent Studied At The School Of Fine Arts Of San Carlos , And With A Grant Received In 1919, Traveled To Madrid Where He Participated In The Circle Of Ramon Gomez De La Serna , For Whom He Illustrated Some Greguerías , And Cutting - Edge Activities Later Called The School Of Vallecas , Associated With The Society Of Iberian Artists . He Also Collaborated As An Illustrator For The Magazine Blanco Y Negro , And Illustrated Books By Elena Fortún , Azorín , Juan Manuel Díaz Caneja And Manuel Abril . In 1924 He Had Spent Two Years In Paris, Where He Came To Design Some Sets For Opera Shows. He Participated In Three Exhibitions "The Iberians" (San Sebastián In 1931, Copenhagen In 1932 And Berlin In 1933), In The International Exhibition Of Contemporary Spanish Art In Paris And Venice In 1936, And In The Spanish Pavilion Of The International Exhibition In Paris In 1937. In The Spanish Anti-Fascist War He Presumably Fought Against Franco. As Part Of His Activity He Helped With The Publication Of This Volume Of Illustrations. He Was One Of The Spanish Exiles Who Landed In Veracruz, Mexico In 1939 , After Crossing The Sinaia , Along With Other Intellectuals And Artists (Such As José Moreno Villa , Arturo Souto Or Remedios Varo . ] In Mexico, Climent Brought His Avant-Garde Style Closer To The Realistic Tendencies Of The 1940S But Without The Pictorial Ideology Of Mexican Muralism . As Of 1964, He Alternated His Mexican Residence With Stays In Altea (Alicante) . He Died In Mexico In 1980 . Four Years After His Death, The Palacio De Bellas Artes De México Dedicated A Monographic Exhibition To Him. In Spain It Was Rediscovered As A Result Of The Exhibition Of Drawings By Exiled Spanish Artists, Brought Together By Javier Tusell , A Protagonist Of That Exodus. From His Mexican Period, Most Of His Work Was Kept In The Collection Of His Daughter, Isabel Climent, And Other Private Collections, Such As The Portrait Of Juan Gil-Albert (1940) Kept In The Alicante Provincial Council. His Work Is In The National Museum Of Art Center Reina Sofía , As Part Of The Collection Of The Spanish Museum Of Contemporary Art (Meac).
