Hardcover. Condizione: As New. No Jacket. 1st Edition. New Haven: Yale University Press, 2002. First edition, first printing, with full number line including the 1. Hardcover. A clean, tight, unread copy. Issued without dust jacket. Brand new, perfect condition. "Exorcism" is a short, one-act play written by Eugene O Neill in 1919, drawn directly from his own suicide attempt earlier that year and the immediate aftermath of his first marriage's collapse. The work is unusually raw even by O Neill s standards, portraying a young writer's psychological disintegration and near-death experience without symbolic distance or theatrical cushioning. O Neill later suppressed the play, reportedly at the urging of his wife Carlotta, believing it was too personal and too revealing to be released during his lifetime, and he instructed that it not be published or performed. The manuscript remained effectively sealed for decades and was only released posthumously in 2002, when it appeared for the first time in print, accompanied by a foreword by Edward Albee, who emphasizes its importance as a key document in understanding O Neill s emotional life and the origins of his mature dramatic voice. Eugene O Neill is the author of Beyond the Horizon, The Emperor Jones, Anna Christie, Mourning Becomes Electra, The Iceman Cometh, and Long Day s Journey into Night, and the recipient of four Pulitzer Prizes and the Nobel Prize in Literature.

Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Fine. 1st. Cloth, 160 pages, chiefly illustrations; 31 cm. SIGNED. Boldly signed by the photographer Jack Mitchell (1925-2013) on the front free endpaper, no dedication. Dust jacket protected in a mylar cover. Profusely illustrated. A large-format coffee-table book. Profusely illustrated. *** "For thirty-five years, almost everyone who was anyone in the arts found themselves in Jack Mitchell's photography studio in New York City. This book distills the finest results of Mitchell's own artistic mission to portray the greatest actors, dancers, painters, composers, writers, choreographers, and musicians of his day. Mitchell's list of subjects is a crash course in late twentieth-century art, including such luminaries as Mikhail Baryshnikov, Lauren Bacall, Alfred Hitchcock, Twyla Tharp, Jack Nicholson, Robert Rauschenberg, Meryl Streep, Luciano Pavarotti, Uta Hagen, Tommy Tune, Julie Andrews, Philip Glass, and on, and on. In the sixties, his self-assigned goal of photographing the greatest painters and sculptors living in New York - for example, Isamu Noguchi, Louise Nevelson, Roy Lichtenstein, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Indiana, Andy Warhol, and Claes Oldenburg - led to a retrospective exhibit in 1974. Although the photographs that follow speak for themselves, captions accompany each one, providing a time-capsule context. Mitchell's wry sense of humor peeks out from behind the lens in these anecdotes about America's greatest living (and sometimes now deceased) legends." - Publisher. Size: Folio. SIGNED. Collectible.
